The nervous system is the complex network of nerves that communicate vital information between the brain, spinal cord and the rest of the body. It is responsible for sending, receiving and integrating information that allows us to understand our environment and regulate behavior. Through a diverse range of organ systems, physiological structures and neurologic circuits, the nervous system enables us to experience and respond to our world appropriately. It is the coordinating center of the body’s activities, integrating and controlling both conscious and unconscious activities.
